Two Children Killed in Tragic Ogun Road Accident as FRSC Blames Overloading and Speed

Two children lost their lives in a tragic accident in Ewekoro, Ogun State, confirmed by the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The accident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, involved a white Toyota Camry with the registration number AGL36JA.

According to a statement released by FRSC spokesperson Florence Okpe on Sunday, the crash resulted in injuries to seven other individuals, who were promptly taken to Ifo General Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased children were also deposited at the same hospital.

"The accident was caused by excessive speed and overloading," Okpe stated. The overloaded vehicle, which was carrying a total of nine people, including seven male adults, a male child, and a female child, lost control and crashed, leading to the fatal outcome.

Operatives from the FRSC Itori Unit Command carried out the rescue operation and ensured the injured victims received medical attention. The crash highlights the dangers of overloading and excessive speed, both of which are major contributors to road accidents.

Ogun State Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin condemned the incident, describing it as a tragic reminder of the consequences of ignoring traffic regulations. "This crash is indicative of a disregard for life by the driver and passengers who saw nothing wrong with grossly overloading the car," Fasakin remarked.

He urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic laws, emphasizing that overloading vehicles with goods or passengers not only endangers the driver but also poses a significant risk to other road users.

Fasakin extended his condolences to the families of the deceased children and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
