A 27-year-old Nigerian woman, Patricia Masithela, tragically lost her life after being attacked by a pack of starving dogs in Latina, Italy. The horrific incident occurred late Monday night while Patricia visited a male acquaintance’s abandoned villa in the Lazio region, according to reports by Mirror UK.
Patricia, who had relocated to Lazio from Nigeria, was unaware that her friend was not at home when she arrived at the property. Shortly after her arrival, a pack of dogs attacked her. Her screams alerted nearby residents, but by the time help arrived, Patricia was found critically injured, lying in a pool of blood with deep wounds all over her body.
Police officers responding to the scene were forced to shoot two of the dogs to disperse the pack and allow emergency services to reach her. The remaining dogs fled after hearing the gunshots.
Paramedics provided immediate emergency care and rushed Patricia to Santa Maria Goretti Hospital. Despite their best efforts, she succumbed to severe bite wounds and significant blood loss shortly after arrival.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, focusing on how the dogs, reportedly in a starving condition, ended up in the area. Initial reports suggest that the animals may have been strays or left to fend for themselves at the abandoned property.
The tragedy has sparked outrage and concern among local residents, with many calling for stricter measures to address the growing issue of stray animals. Discussions on public safety and animal control are intensifying, with demands for preventative action to ensure such a devastating incident does not happen again.
This incident has highlighted broader concerns about stray animals in Italian communities and the need for improved regulations to protect residents from potentially dangerous situations. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details surrounding the attack.
Patricia’s death serves as a grim reminder of the risks posed by abandoned and neglected animals, especially in areas where proper animal control measures are lacking.
