Flydubai has partnered with Network International to introduce mobile money payments for Ugandan travelers, making it easier to book flights.
The airline announced the partnership on Monday, allowing customers in Uganda to pay for flights using popular mobile money services such as MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money. This payment option will be available when booking online or through the flydubai mobile app.
Sudhir Sreeditan, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at flydubai, highlighted the airline’s dedication to adopting new technology.
“We are pleased to have partnered with Network International and reaffirm our longstanding commitment to investing in the latest technologies and innovative solutions,” Sreeditan said.
Judy Waruiru, Regional Managing Director for East Africa Acquiring at Network International, described the collaboration as an important step in improving customer convenience.
“With East Africa being a leader in mobile money adoption, integrating this payment option into an international airline underscores the power of strategic collaborations in advancing localized digital payments,” Waruiru said.
The initiative aims to make air travel more accessible by offering a widely used payment method in the region. Mobile money is a dominant financial service in Uganda and across East Africa, where many people rely on digital wallets for transactions. By accepting mobile money, flydubai hopes to attract more travelers who may not have access to traditional banking services.
Flydubai operates flights to over 130 destinations in 55 countries, including key locations in Africa, Asia, and Europe. The airline’s expansion of digital payment options aligns with its broader goal of improving customer experience and reaching more markets.
The partnership is expected to extend to other African countries such as Kenya and Tanzania in the future. Network International, which provides digital payment solutions to businesses and financial institutions, sees this collaboration as a way to strengthen its presence in Africa’s growing digital economy.
As mobile money continues to play a vital role in financial transactions across the region, this move by flydubai and Network International highlights the increasing importance of digital payment solutions in the airline industry.
