
Tesla has introduced a new rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck model with a longer range and a lower price tag than before.
The new entry-level version, called the Cybertruck Long Range, starts at $69,990 before applying the federal $7,500 EV tax credit. This makes it the most affordable model in the Cybertruck lineup to date. To achieve the lower price, Tesla removed several features from this version.
Unlike the dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) Cybertruck, the new model uses a single rear-wheel-drive (RWD) motor. It also drops the powered roll-up hard tonneau cover that comes with other trims. Instead, buyers can leave the bed open or purchase a $750 soft tonneau cover. Interestingly, Tesla claims this soft cover can improve aerodynamics and add about 12 miles to the driving range.
On a single charge, the Cybertruck Long Range can travel up to 350 miles. With the soft tonneau cover, that range increases to 362 miles. This is a notable improvement over the AWD model’s 325-mile range. However, the RWD model has a reduced towing capacity of
