Adamu Garba Warns Tinubu Is Being Misled by Sycophants

President Bola Tinubu is being misled by those around him who pretend everything is fine, according to Adamu Garba, a member of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Garba shared his concerns during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, warning that the situation in the country is far from okay.

Garba criticized individuals close to the president, describing them as sycophants who are feeding Tinubu false narratives. He stressed that these individuals are preventing the president from seeing the true state of the nation and the party’s challenges. According to him, constructive criticism is being ignored in favour of praise, which could eventually harm both the president and the APC.

Garba also addressed the growing threat from the opposition, particularly the coalition formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He referred to the group as “vultures,” suggesting they are preparing to take advantage of the ruling party’s weaknesses. He said the opposition is banking on the APC’s internal issues and lack of strategic direction.

One of the key concerns Garba raised is the decline of support for the APC in Northern Nigeria. He pointed out that the 12 million votes that former President Muhammadu Buhari once secured from the North were no longer available. This, he said, became evident after Buhari left office in 2023 and further emphasized by the 2023 general elections, where the APC managed only 5.5 million northern votes.

He acknowledged that despite the reduced support, the APC was able to win the 2023 elections due to strong structures and effective strategies. However, with Buhari now out of the political picture—especially following his death in early July 2025—Garba believes the party must urgently rethink and rework its political approach.

“We need to be very sincere with ourselves,” Garba urged, adding that only honest leadership and openness to criticism can help the APC maintain its relevance and strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
