Kenyan Afropop boyband Sauti Sol has thrilled fans with the announcement of the return of their popular 'Sol Fest' concert. In a video seen by the Star, the band revealed that the much-anticipated event will be held in the second last week of December 2024.
The concert will feature two parts: a VIP show on December 19 and a fans' show on December 21, 2024. The lineup of performers promises to be a star-studded affair, with the video showcasing a lineup of top artists in the country, including former Sol Generation signees Nviiri and Bensoul, as well as Nyashinski and Khaligraph Jones.
This announcement comes even as Sauti Sol had previously announced that they would be taking a break from the group to focus on individual careers. In November 2023, the boyband had dubbed the Sol Fest concert as their "last dance" before embarking on their solo journeys.
Despite the high ticket prices, the 2023 edition of the concert was a resounding success, with over 15,000 people in attendance. Sauti Sol brought out rappers Khaligraph Jones, Nyashinski, singer Dela, and P-Unit to help them celebrate their 20-year journey in the industry. The band also performed together with the Sol Generation Boys – Nviiri and Bensoul, who had earlier warmed up the stage for the "big boys."
Earlier this year, the Solfest organizers had extended an invitation to fans to participate in shaping the festival's lineup. Through a response form, fans were able to voice their preferences for artists they'd like to see grace the Solfest stage. Notable names such as Okello Max, Lisa Oduor Noah, Neyo, Musiq Soulchild, and Angelique Kidjo were mentioned, hinting at a lineup that promises to captivate audiences from all walks of life.
For over 17 years, Bien Baraza, Polycarp Otieno, Savara Mudigi, and Austin Chimano have stolen the hearts of Kenyans and the world with hit after hit, going on to win international awards, including the Best African Act at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards. The return of the iconic Sol Fest concert is sure to be a must-attend event for music lovers in Kenya and beyond.
