NNPCL Prepares for Launch of Petrol Supply from Dangote Refinery with 100 Trucks Deployed

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) is gearing up to begin petrol supply from the Dangote refinery, deploying 100 trucks to facilitate operations. This significant move comes as the refinery prepares to start loading its first batch of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

In a statement shared on their official X handle, NNPCL confirmed that over 100 trucks have already arrived at the Dangote refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. The corporation stated, “In preparation for the Dangote Refinery’s scheduled petrol loading, NNPC Ltd. has been mobilizing trucks to the refinery’s fuel loading gantry.” Furthermore, they noted that hundreds more trucks are currently en route to support the operation.

The commencement of petrol loading marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian oil sector, and it is expected to enhance fuel availability across the country. The Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products has also confirmed that the Dangote refinery will exclusively sell petrol to NNPCL. This arrangement underscores the strategic partnership between the two entities.

Zacch Adedeji, a member of the committee and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), shared additional details about the collaboration. He revealed that NNPCL will start supplying crude oil to the Dangote refinery, with a commitment of 385,000 barrels per day (bpd). This arrangement will be paid for in Naira starting from October 1, further solidifying the financial ties between the two.

While NNPCL will be the sole buyer of petrol from the refinery, Adedeji clarified that the Dangote refinery has the freedom to sell diesel to other buyers. This flexibility is expected to foster competition and potentially stabilize fuel prices in the market.

As the countdown to the petrol loading begins, the deployment of trucks signifies NNPCL’s readiness to enhance fuel distribution and meet the energy needs of Nigerians. The collaboration between NNPCL and the Dangote refinery is poised to transform the landscape of fuel supply in Nigeria, promising improved efficiency and availability of petrol in the coming days. The industry eagerly anticipates the positive impact of this initiative on the nation’s fuel supply chain.
