A container-laden truck has fallen on a car in Lagos, specifically in the Mile 2 area, causing significant disruption. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the driver of the car, a Toyota Camry, was rescued alive by emergency responders at the scene.
The truck, which was carrying a 40-foot container, toppled over, trapping the car beneath it. LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that the driver was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. After the rescue operation, the Toyota Camry was successfully removed from under the fallen container.
LASTMA is currently working to clear the scene and has started efforts to remove the fallen container. In addition, officers from the agency are managing traffic in the area to minimize congestion and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of transporting heavy containers. LASTMA's General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of securing containers properly on trucks. He stressed that negligence in securing containers not only endangers lives but also causes property damage, urging truck drivers and owners to follow road safety protocols closely.
LASTMA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads in Lagos, working alongside other relevant agencies to enforce traffic laws and improve public safety. The authorities continue to monitor the situation and collaborate with stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The accident has sparked a wider conversation about road safety, especially concerning the transportation of heavy goods in densely populated areas like Lagos. LASTMA remains focused on reducing traffic accidents and ensuring the safety of all road users.
