Kaduna State Approves Recruitment of 1,800 Health Workers
The Kaduna State Government has approved the recruitment of 1,800 new health workers to strengthen staffing in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state. This move aims to address personnel shortages and improve healthcare delivery for residents.
Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad, announced the approval on Thursday, emphasizing the state’s commitment to enhancing its leadership in Primary Health Care. She explained that the recruitment will help improve access to quality medical services, particularly in rural areas.
Addressing Healthcare Gaps
According to the commissioner, the lack of adequate medical personnel in PHCs has affected service delivery, making it difficult for residents to access proper healthcare. The new recruitment aims to bridge this gap and improve patient care.
“This move is expected to reduce maternal and child mortality rates while enhancing the overall health of Kaduna residents,” she stated.
Ahmad also highlighted the ongoing revitalization of 255 PHCs, which includes equipping them with modern medical tools and essential drugs. She noted that all these facilities will be upgraded to Level 2 status as part of Governor Uba Sani’s efforts to reform the health sector.
Upgraded Healthcare Services
Once fully upgraded, the PHCs will offer more comprehensive medical services. These will include treatment for conditions such as uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, emergency care for severe asthma, resuscitation services, and assisted deliveries.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader plan to improve primary healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable communities. By expanding medical staff and upgrading facilities, the state aims to make quality healthcare more accessible.
Recognition for Kaduna’s Health Initiatives
Ahmad also commended the governor’s dedication to the health sector, noting that Kaduna’s efforts have earned 10 awards. Among them is the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA), recognizing the state’s progress in healthcare management.
The state government remains committed to further strengthening the healthcare system, ensuring that residents receive better services at PHCs. With the recruitment process now approved, the next step will be selecting qualified health professionals to fill these critical positions.
