Police in Kano have arrested 33 suspected thugs, also known as Yan Daba, during a series of clearance operations carried out across the Kano Metropolitan Local Government Area between April 23 and April 28.
In a statement released on Monday, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the arrests and said the operations led to the recovery of dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen items. The raids were carried out by the Command Tactical Teams as part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and reduce crime.
Kiyawa explained that these efforts are part of the broader directive of the Inspector-General of Police, who has tasked police commands across the country with creating a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens.
“The command has been conducting round-the-clock visibility patrols, intelligence-led raids, evidence-based investigations, and enhanced community policing capabilities to maintain peace and security across the state,” Kiyawa said.
He also noted that the state police commissioner, Ibrahim Bakori, expressed his appreciation to residents for their continued support and cooperation. He urged the public to remain engaged and share useful information with law enforcement agencies, as this helps in identifying and preventing criminal activity.
The police command emphasized that maintaining a peaceful society is a shared responsibility and encouraged citizens to continue supporting their security initiatives.
The successful arrest of the 33 suspects is part of the command’s ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal groups and removing threats to safety in the state. These operations demonstrate the police's commitment to tackling thuggery and other forms of violent crime that have been a concern in the region.
Kiyawa reassured the public that the command would continue working to protect lives and property, and that efforts to enforce law and order would not slow down. He concluded by reaffirming the police’s dedication to a safer Kano for all residents.
