A man was shot and killed while getting out of his car late Saturday night in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood.
The shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Hillock Avenue, according to the Chicago police. Officers responded to a call reporting a person had been shot and found the victim lying on the ground.
Authorities said the victim was exiting his car when a red SUV pulled up nearby. Someone inside the SUV opened fire, striking the man multiple times in the body.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Stroger Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the man as 36-year-old Nicholas Pinto.
As of Sunday, no one had been arrested in connection with the shooting, and Area 1 detectives have launched an investigation. Police have not yet released any additional details about potential suspects or motives.
The Bridgeport neighborhood, located on the South Side of Chicago, has seen an uptick in gun violence incidents in recent months. However, it remains unclear whether this shooting was targeted or random, and authorities continue to gather information from possible witnesses and nearby surveillance footage.
The red SUV involved in the shooting quickly fled the scene after the attack, according to initial reports. Police are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or the individuals involved to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Nicholas Pinto’s death adds to the troubling number of gun violence victims recorded in Chicago this year. City officials and community leaders have repeatedly called for stronger measures to curb violence, including expanded police patrols and more community-based intervention programs.
The Chicago Police Department is asking that anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around South Hillock Avenue Saturday night contact Area 1 detectives. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the CPD’s official tip line.
Authorities have promised a thorough investigation and are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice. More updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
