Rainfall to Persist in Six Kenyan Regions for Five More Days

Several parts of Kenya will continue receiving rainfall over the next five days, according to the latest update from the Kenya Meteorological Department.

In its weather forecast released on Tuesday, May 20, the Met Department indicated that rains would persist in specific regions including the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, Western, and North-western Kenya. These areas should expect consistent rainfall patterns even as the long rains season gradually comes to an end.

“Rainfall will persist in parts of the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Coast, Western, and North-western Kenya,” the department stated in its report.

Despite the continuation of rain in some regions, the Met Department noted that the overall intensity of rainfall will reduce as the month progresses. However, certain locations are likely to experience occasional downpours before the season fully ends. These areas include parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, both sides of the Rift Valley highlands, isolated spots in the South-eastern lowlands near Nairobi County, and sections of the Coast.

“A few areas over the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, isolated areas over the South-eastern lowlands especially those neighboring Nairobi County, and the Coastal region are likely to continue receiving rainfall with some breaks for the remaining part of May,” the Met Department explained.

Alongside the rainfall, varying temperatures are expected across the country. Daytime temperatures may rise to 30 degrees Celsius in regions such as the Coast, North-eastern, North-western Kenya, and parts of the South-eastern lowlands.

On the other hand, night-time temperatures will drop significantly in some parts of the country. The Met Department highlighted that regions within the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Central Rift Valley, and the areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro could experience night temperatures falling below 10 degrees Celsius.

This update serves as a guide for residents and farmers to prepare for changing weather conditions as the country nears the end of the long rains season.
