Kindiki Says Security Heightened in Mbeere North Before By-Election

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced that security has been strengthened in Mbeere North as preparations continue for Thursday’s by-election.

Kindiki said the government had taken firm steps to ensure the vote proceeds without disruption, stressing that no group would be allowed to intimidate residents or interfere with the process. His message was aimed at reassuring voters that authorities are fully prepared to maintain order throughout the exercise.

According to the Interior CS, security teams have been deployed across the constituency to prevent any attempts to destabilise the election. He made it clear that the state would not tolerate individuals or groups seeking to cause fear among residents or discourage them from participating in the vote.

“The government will not allow goons to take over or for wananchi to be threatened not to vote by those who fear they will lose. There will be voting and the exercise will proceed in peace,” he assured.

Kindiki’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in the constituency, where candidates and their supporters are making final campaign pushes ahead of polling day. His statement was intended to calm rising tensions and emphasise that every eligible voter will be protected as they head to the ballot.

The Interior CS has in recent months taken a strong stance against electoral violence and has repeatedly warned that state agencies will respond decisively to any attempts to undermine the democratic process. By reinforcing security ahead of the Mbeere North vote, he sought to reaffirm the government’s commitment to safeguarding both the integrity of the election and the safety of residents.

Local leaders have also urged calm, encouraging residents to come out and vote without fear. With security officers now stationed across key areas, authorities say they expect the by-election to run smoothly.

As Thursday approaches, Kindiki’s message remains clear: voters will be allowed to cast their ballots freely, and the government will ensure that peace prevails throughout the exercise.
