National Security Seizes 12 Containers of Cash, Suspected Gold Bars

National Security officers have seized a large but undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars and Ghana cedi notes hidden inside twelve 20-foot shipping containers during a major operation.

The operation followed a tip-off, leading security forces to a warehouse in Sapeiman, Ga South Municipality. Upon searching the containers, officers found bundles of U.S. dollars concealed inside wooden boxes filled with cement. Additional boxes opened inside the warehouse contained more cash hidden in secret compartments covered with plywood and sealed with charcoal.

Authorities confirmed that while they had secured twelve containers, two more remained unaccounted for. However, state security operatives are actively tracking them.

A manhunt is currently underway for four suspects linked to the case, including a ringleader identified only as Alhaji. Security officials believe these individuals played a key role in smuggling and concealing the cash.

Further searches of the warehouse led to even more alarming discoveries. Officers found boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars, along with counterfeit Ghana cedi notes in ₵50 and ₵100 denominations. In addition to the fake currency, authorities also uncovered Ghana Army uniforms and boots, raising concerns about possible criminal activities involving impersonation.

Investigations into the case are ongoing, with security forces working to determine the origin of the seized money and suspected gold bars. Authorities are also intensifying efforts to track down the remaining suspects and recover the missing containers.

This operation marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against illicit financial activities and organized crime in the country.
