Israeli Airstrike Kills Senior Hamas Leader at Gaza Hospital

An Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza killed senior Hamas leader Ismail Barhoum and one of his aides on Sunday evening, according to a Hamas official who spoke to the BBC.

Hamas Leader Killed at Hospital

Barhoum, who was in charge of Hamas’s financial affairs, had been receiving treatment at the hospital in Khan Younis after being injured in an airstrike four days earlier. The official stated that the attack directly targeted Barhoum while he was inside the medical facility.

Israel Confirms Targeted Strike

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it had conducted an airstrike on a key Hamas figure operating within the hospital compound. The military said the attack was based on extensive intelligence and that “precise munitions” were used to minimize collateral damage.

Casualties and Injuries

The Hamas-run health ministry reported that “many others,” including medical staff, were injured in the attack. However, the exact number of casualties remains unclear.

The strike on Nasser Hospital is the latest in a series of attacks targeting Hamas operatives amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
