Just weeks after the death of her husband, the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, Hanna Wendot has been nominated as the new Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage. Her nomination comes after the position was initially offered to Stella Soi Lang’at, whose appointment was rejected in August 2024.
Lang’at’s nomination was turned down due to concerns over her lack of strategic planning, cultural sensitivity, and weak communication skills. With Wendot’s nomination, the government aims to fill the long-vacant position and strengthen the Ministry’s leadership.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, by President William Ruto. In addition to Wendot’s nomination, the President also made several key changes within the Cabinet. Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has been moved to the Health Ministry, replacing CS Debora Barasa, who will now take over the Environment docket.
Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei stated that the Cabinet reshuffle was aimed at ensuring the government operates at full capacity, enhancing its ability to drive Kenya’s socioeconomic transformation.
Another significant appointment included Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, who has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes.
These latest changes reflect the administration’s effort to strengthen leadership across key ministries as it seeks to implement its development agenda. The nominations are now subject to parliamentary approval before the new appointees can officially assume office.
