MOGO Uganda, a leading asset financing company, has teamed up with Airtel Uganda to offer an affordable smartphone loan program aimed at increasing access to Tecno, Infinix, and itel devices for Ugandans. This partnership is a response to the growing demand for budget-friendly smartphones, which are essential for staying connected, learning, and thriving in the digital age.
Under this program, customers can purchase a smartphone by paying just 28% of the device’s price as an initial deposit. Daily repayments start as low as UGX 848, with the remaining balance spread over a period of up to 52 weeks, depending on the customer's financial ability. Repayments can be customized on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, providing flexibility for individuals.
The application process for the smartphone loan is simple and doesn’t require collateral or income verification. Customers only need a national ID and a SIM card registered with mobile money. Applications can be submitted at Airtel Uganda stores or through MOGO’s authorized agents, with approval often completed within 15 minutes.
In addition to the affordable payment plan, Airtel Uganda offers 3GB of free data each month for three months to every customer who buys a smartphone through this initiative. This data package helps users explore digital opportunities, such as online learning, business, and social media, without worrying about data costs. This support is aimed at closing the digital divide, especially for those in remote areas.
Douglas Kikonyogo, MOGO Uganda’s Marketing and Communications Manager, emphasized that this collaboration is a key step in promoting digital inclusion. By offering affordable financing for high-quality smartphones, the initiative addresses barriers to digital access, empowering Ugandans to benefit from education, communication, and commerce opportunities.
While many Ugandans still rely on feature phones, smartphones are becoming increasingly crucial for accessing digital services. This partnership between MOGO Uganda and Airtel is a significant effort to bridge the digital gap, particularly in rural areas where network coverage and electricity access may be limited.
