Trump Marks 100 Days With Praise for Record and Attacks on Critics

On the 100th day of his second term, President Donald Trump delivered a fiery speech celebrating his achievements while attacking political opponents and critics. Speaking to a crowd in suburban Detroit, Michigan, he claimed his administration was driving a “revolution of common sense” and promised even more dramatic changes ahead.

Trump highlighted a sharp drop in illegal border crossings, pointing to a fall from 140,000 in March of the previous year to just over 7,000. He also said nearly 65,700 immigrants had been deported so far under his new term, though that figure trails behind the over 270,000 deported in the last fiscal year.

At the rally, Trump showed a video of deported migrants being flown to a large prison facility in El Salvador, reinforcing his strict immigration stance. He also defended his controversial move to end birthright citizenship, despite multiple legal challenges.

Trump used the speech to criticize several targets, including his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden, the U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and national polling agencies. He dismissed reports that show his approval rating at 44%—the lowest for any post-World War Two president at the 100-day mark—as “fake polls.”

While the economy remains a key issue, Trump insisted progress is being made. He claimed that inflation and energy prices have fallen under his leadership, and said egg prices had dropped by 87%—a figure not supported by government statistics. Unemployment has edged up slightly, and the stock market has seen volatility, partly driven by Trump’s global tariff policies. His recent decision to scale back tariffs on imported cars followed concerns from American automakers about rising costs.

Despite mixed economic signals, Trump remains popular with Republican voters. His core supporters applauded his aggressive style and ongoing campaign against what he views as elite and out-of-touch institutions.

At the rally, Trump also mocked Biden’s mental fitness and past appearances, continuing to insist—without evidence—that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 election. He even invited the crowd to vote on their favorite nickname for Biden.

While the Democratic Party called Trump’s first 100 days a “colossal failure,” his most loyal backers, like diner owner Teresa Breckinridge from Georgia, remain confident in his leadership.

“He’s tackling issues every day and reporting back to the people,” she said. “I think the tariffs will eventually work in our favor.”
