Detectives have arrested a close associate of Juja MP George Koimburi in connection with the lawmaker’s alleged abduction last weekend.
Cyrus Kieru Muhia, who is believed to own a silver Subaru Forester linked to the incident, was taken into custody on the evening of Tuesday, May 27. According to investigators, the vehicle—fitted with civilian registration plates—was captured on video allegedly blocking MP Koimburi moments before he went missing.
The footage, now central to the investigation, is being examined to determine its authenticity and how it ties into the reported abduction.
Muhia is currently being held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi. Detectives are questioning him to find out if he played an active role in what they describe as a “carefully planned operation.” Authorities say his arrest is considered a major breakthrough in uncovering the truth behind the legislator’s brief disappearance.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County. Eyewitnesses claim that unidentified individuals confronted the MP and forced him into a waiting car, which is suspected to be the same Subaru owned by Muhia. The following day, Koimburi was discovered abandoned in a coffee plantation within the same county, raising further questions about the motive behind the incident.
So far, five individuals have been interviewed in connection with the case. Investigators are also expected to speak with MP Koimburi himself. However, efforts to contact him have reportedly been delayed by his family, who are said to be concerned about his health following the ordeal.
Police are looking into all possible motives, including political factors or personal disputes. The arrest of Muhia is seen as a potential turning point in the investigation, as he may hold critical information that could help unravel the events surrounding Koimburi’s disappearance.
The case has drawn widespread attention, not only because of the MP’s political status but also due to the mysterious nature of the incident. While some have questioned whether the abduction was genuine or staged, authorities have urged the public to remain patient as investigations proceed.
In a public statement, police assured Kenyans that the case is being handled with professionalism. They emphasized their commitment to uncovering the full truth, saying all leads will be thoroughly followed.
As more details emerge, the focus now turns to the ongoing interrogation of the key suspect and the much-anticipated interview with Koimburi himself.
