Max Verstappen secured his fourth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship after finishing fifth at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday night. The Red Bull driver only needed to finish ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris to clinch the title, and he did just that as Norris ended the race in sixth place.
The weekend presented significant challenges for Verstappen and his team. Red Bull miscalculated while adjusting his rear wing, leaving his car slower than the Mercedes drivers on straightaways. Despite this, Verstappen managed to maximize his car's performance, starting in fifth position on the grid and scoring enough points to seal the championship.
Mercedes showed impressive speed throughout the weekend. George Russell claimed pole position and went on to win the race, marking his second victory of the season. Lewis Hamilton finished just behind him in second, while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz rounded out the podium in third.
With this title, Verstappen joins an elite group of drivers with four consecutive championships, including Sebastian Vettel, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Lewis Hamilton. Only Michael Schumacher has achieved more, with five straight titles from 2000 to 2004. Verstappen’s career total of four titles ties him with Vettel and Alain Prost, while Hamilton and Schumacher hold the record with seven each.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix was not without its difficulties. Drivers faced unusually cold and windy conditions, causing slippery tracks during practice sessions. Qualifying saw improved performances, though Franco Colapinto crashed during Q2. The race itself, however, ran smoothly, with few incidents aside from Pierre Gasly's disappointing performance.
The competition remains intense in the constructors’ championship. McLaren entered the weekend with a 36-point lead over Ferrari, but after the Las Vegas Grand Prix, their advantage narrowed to 24 points. McLaren now holds 608 points to Ferrari’s 584, with two races left on the calendar: the Qatar Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
As Verstappen celebrates his historic achievement, attention shifts to the remaining races, where teams will battle to secure their final standings in the constructors’ championship.
