Nine people have been remanded in prison custody for allegedly murdering a taxi driver in Akotom, Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, Western Region. The Tarkwa District Court One, where they made their third appearance, is expected to charge them with conspiracy to commit a crime and murder.
The accused are Nana Kwabena Agyarko, 45, Evans Azure (alias Ampana), 40, Peter Kwamena Antwi, 34, Felix Atsu Davor, 38, Sampson Agbodojie, 30, Kojo Bonzy, 72, Stephen Owusu (alias Ko Abanga), 38, Ko Ampabeng, 38, and Lucky Mudoo, 30. Their pleas have not yet been taken, and they will reappear in court on March 3, 2025.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to the prosecution, led by Police Sergeant Enoch Assan Donkor, the complainant is a businessman residing in Huniso, while the deceased, Kwadwo Donkor (alias ‘Chilling’), was his employee. Azure lived near Tarkwa, while the other accused resided in Akotom.
On November 8, 2024, Donkor left home with his taxi for work but never returned. The complainant tried to reach him multiple times without success and eventually reported the matter to the police.
While investigations were ongoing, police received a tip-off that a suspect named Sheriffa, who is currently on the run, had falsely accused Donkor of theft. She allegedly saw him near her husband’s car in Akotom and, without any justification, raised an alarm, drawing the accused and other community members to the scene.
Brutal Attack and Disposal of the Body
The prosecution revealed that the accused confronted Donkor, and Azure provided a rope, which they used to tie him to a nearby electric pole. The group then attacked him with various objects, leading to his death.
Realizing he had died, they allegedly placed his body in a tricycle and dumped it in a nearby bush along the Tarkwa-Bogoso Highway near Akotom.
Arrest and Investigation
The police arrested Agyarko, who initially denied involvement but later confessed and implicated Antwi and other suspects. He led officers to the location where they had dumped the body, which was subsequently retrieved.
Azure, upon his arrest, named Antwi and Davor as accomplices, leading to their capture at a hideout. Police later apprehended the remaining accused, and a duplicate docket on the case has been sent to the Attorney General’s office in Sekondi for review and legal advice.
The case remains under investigation, and the accused await further court proceedings.
