The winner of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States could take home up to $125 million in prize money, FIFA announced on Wednesday. The tournament, set to take place from June 14 to July 13, will feature 32 teams competing for a share of a massive $1 billion prize fund.
FIFA has now revealed how the money will be distributed among the participating clubs. Each team will receive a portion of a $525 million participation fund, while an additional $475 million will be awarded based on performance. The team that lifts the trophy after seven matches will earn the highest payout.
How the Prize Money is Distributed
European clubs will receive between $12.81 million and $38.19 million each, depending on their sporting achievements and commercial value. South American teams will get $15.21 million, while clubs from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa will each earn $9.55 million. Oceania’s sole representative, Auckland City, will receive the lowest amount at $3.58 million.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the prize structure as the biggest in club football history for a tournament with both group stage and knockout rounds. He also announced an additional $250 million solidarity fund aimed at reinvesting in football development worldwide.
A New Era for Club Football
The expanded Club World Cup is expected to attract top clubs from around the world, making it one of the most lucrative tournaments in football history. The prize money is a major incentive, particularly for teams outside Europe and South America, which typically receive lower financial rewards from international competitions.
With FIFA’s push to grow the Club World Cup into a major global event, the increased funding and prize distribution could help boost club football across different continents. As teams prepare for the tournament, the stakes are higher than ever, with not just the trophy but a record-breaking financial reward on the line.
