Real Madrid Quartet Cleared for Arsenal Clash After UEFA Review

Real Madrid players Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Dani Ceballos have been cleared to play in the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal after being investigated by UEFA for alleged improper conduct during their last-16 victory against Atletico Madrid.

The investigation stemmed from claims that the players made inappropriate gestures toward Atletico Madrid fans following Real Madrid's penalty shootout win. While Vinicius Jr was cleared of any wrongdoing, the other three players faced disciplinary action.

UEFA determined that Mbappe, Rudiger, and Ceballos had breached “the basic rules of decent conduct.” As a result, Mbappe and Rudiger were both handed one-match bans, alongside fines of £25,000 and £35,000, respectively. Ceballos was fined £17,000 (or 20,000 euros). However, the bans for Mbappe and Rudiger will only be enforced if they commit further violations within a one-year probationary period.

Despite the sanctions, all four players are eligible to participate in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal on April 8 at the Emirates Stadium. The return leg will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 16.

This resolution ensures that Real Madrid will have a full squad for their highly anticipated clash with Arsenal, as they aim to progress further in the prestigious European competition.
