Police in Anambra State have arrested two men in connection with the murder of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, who was found tied up and killed in a disturbing attack.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects—Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi—were arrested by officers from the Ihiala Divisional Police Station following an ongoing investigation that began on April 2, 2025.
The late Mrs. Igbojonu was reportedly tied on both legs and her mouth sealed before she was murdered. Her black CG motorcycle, believed to have been stolen by her killers, was recovered during the investigation.
“Following the complaint received on April 2nd at about 11:30pm, officers have been actively investigating the case,” Ikenga said. “During interrogation, Chidiebere Igboanugo identified Emmanuel Ibeabuchi as one of the gang members involved in the crime. Based on this lead, Ibeabuchi was swiftly apprehended on Monday.”
Police also revealed that the arrested suspects are part of a larger gang. Two other members of the group, known as Alla and Emeka, are currently on the run. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest them.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation. He also instructed the police team to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
SP Ikenga confirmed that once the investigation is completed, the suspects will be formally charged in court.
The arrest of the suspects brings some relief to the local community, as authorities work to bring all those responsible for the brutal killing to justice.
