Football World Sends Support After Liverpool Parade Crash Injures 27

At least 27 people were injured after a car drove into a large crowd celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory on Monday. The crash happened just minutes after Liverpool’s players had passed by in an open-top bus during the club’s victory parade through the city.

Among those hurt were four children, with one reported to be in serious condition. Police confirmed that the crash was not being treated as a terrorist attack. A 53-year-old white British man was arrested at the scene.

The incident took place despite heavy rain, as thousands of fans gathered to celebrate Liverpool’s league win. A dark-coloured car swerved through the crowd, hitting several people before it was stopped. Some fans reacted by surrounding the vehicle and breaking its windows, while police officers moved in to hold them back and help those trapped under the car — including one child.

The football community quickly responded, expressing shock and support for those affected. Liverpool FC posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.”

Rival clubs also showed solidarity. Manchester United wrote, “Our thoughts are with LFC and the city of Liverpool after today’s awful incident,” while Manchester City said, “The thoughts of everyone at Manchester City are with those injured or affected by the incident.” Everton, Liverpool’s city rivals, also shared condolences: “Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city.”

Former Liverpool players also spoke out. Steven Gerrard posted an image of the city with a red heart on Instagram. Jamie Carragher called it a “devastating end to the day” and hoped everyone would be okay.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino released a statement offering “thoughts and prayers to all those affected.” He added that “football stands together with Liverpool FC and all fans” after the tragic event.

The Premier League said it was “shocked by the appalling events” and was in contact with Liverpool FC to offer support. As investigations continue, the city of Liverpool and the wider football world remain united in grief and concern.
