Tinubu Orders Construction of 600-Bed Hostels at Abuja Law School

President Bola Tinubu has approved the construction of new hostels to accommodate 600 students at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja. The directive was given to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, with instructions for immediate commencement of the project.

According to Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant to Wike on public communications and social media, the president’s directive covers the construction of two separate hostels at the school. One hostel will provide accommodation for 300 female students, while the second will house 300 male students.

The plan is aimed at addressing the accommodation challenges facing students at the Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School. By providing purpose-built hostels, the project seeks to improve learning conditions and ease the burden of securing housing for students undergoing the mandatory legal training program.

In addition to the hostel project, President Tinubu also approved the construction of a new road linking the Body of Benchers secretariat in Jabi district to Nile University. Lere Olayinka explained that the road, once completed, will help reduce traffic congestion on the existing route that leads to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Both the hostel construction and the road project have been designated as works to be carried out under “emergency consideration,” allowing for faster delivery.

The Nigerian Law School, established in 1962, is responsible for training law graduates before their admission to the bar. Its Abuja campus is one of six across the country, and housing has long been a challenge for many students who rely on private accommodation. The new initiative is therefore seen as a significant step toward improving student welfare and ensuring a more conducive learning environment.

By linking infrastructure development with education, the directive reflects the government’s focus on easing the conditions for legal training while also addressing wider urban planning challenges in the FCT. The hostels and road project are expected to provide long-term benefits not only for law students but also for the surrounding community.
