Narok Police Arrest Suspect in Assault of Pregnant Woman

Police in Narok County have arrested one suspect linked to a brutal assault where a pregnant woman was attacked by her brothers for defying the family’s choice of husband. The shocking incident, which took place in Enkareta, was captured on video and quickly went viral online, sparking widespread public outrage.

The victim, identified as Lepeita, suffered serious injuries during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Narok Referral Hospital. Authorities confirmed that three other suspects remain at large, and efforts are underway to bring them to justice.

In the disturbing footage, Lepeita is seen being beaten repeatedly with sticks by four men while her mother desperately pleads with them to stop. Despite her cries, the assault continues, highlighting the extreme violence the young woman endured.

Police investigations indicate that the attack was rooted in a family dispute over forced marriage. According to officers, Lepeita had chosen to marry a man her brothers did not approve of. Instead, they allegedly tried to force her into a marriage with another man from a family they preferred. The violent confrontation was reportedly an attempt to punish her for resisting their demands.

Narok County police have strongly condemned the act, promising swift action against all those involved. “One suspect is already in custody, and we are actively pursuing the rest. No one will be spared for taking part in such a heinous act,” a police spokesperson said.

The incident has reignited national conversations around forced marriages, gender-based violence, and the dangers many women still face within their own families. Women’s rights groups have called for urgent action to protect vulnerable women and girls, stressing that cultural practices should never justify violence or abuse.

Authorities have also urged the public to cooperate by providing information that could help in locating the remaining suspects. The case continues to draw attention across Kenya, with many demanding that justice be served swiftly and decisively.

As the investigation unfolds, Lepeita remains in hospital, receiving treatment and support. Her case is a chilling reminder of the violence some women endure when they assert their right to make personal choices about marriage and relationships.
