Nairobi Governor Sakaja Meets Azimio MCAs to Counter Impeachment Threat

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has convened a meeting with elected Azimio Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to strategize in response to an impeachment motion reportedly being planned by Kenya Kwanza members of the assembly.

The meeting, held at Sakaja's campaign office in Riverside, saw the attendance of prominent figures such as Kilimani Ward MCA Robert Alai. Governor Sakaja reassured the MCAs of his administration's commitment to delivering services to Nairobi residents through the proposed development initiatives for the 2024/25 fiscal year.

Sakaja emphasized that his duty is to serve everyone and build a team that delivers for the residents of Nairobi. "I believe with the planned developments, we will fulfill our promises to the people of Nairobi. We made commitments, and we must honor them. I am committed to making Nairobi work," said the governor.

The governor stressed that his administration will serve all Nairobi residents, regardless of their political affiliation, and expressed his intention to engage with all elected leaders to foster cooperation and ensure effective service delivery.

This meeting comes amid reports of a Kenya Kwanza-led plan to table an impeachment motion against the governor. Earlier this month, Sakaja also met with Kenya Kwanza-allied MCAs to discuss county matters, acknowledging the support he has received from United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MCAs, despite them being the minority in the county assembly.

The impeachment threat and the governor's efforts to engage with both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza MCAs highlight the political dynamics at play in Nairobi's county government. Sakaja's commitment to serving all Nairobi residents, regardless of their political affiliation, is a notable stance in a landscape often characterized by partisan divisions.

As the governor navigates these challenges, his focus on development plans and fostering cooperation among the county's elected leaders suggests a desire to prioritize the needs of Nairobi's residents over political considerations. The outcome of the impeachment motion, if it materializes, will undoubtedly have significant implications for the city's governance and the ability of the Sakaja administration to deliver on its promises to the people of Nairobi.
