Enzo Zidane, Son of Football Legend, Retires from Football at 29

Enzo Zidane, the eldest son of football icon Zinedine Zidane, has decided to step away from professional football at the age of 29. His decision comes after a career that saw him emerge from Real Madrid's renowned academy and play for multiple clubs across Europe. According to the Spanish publication AS, Enzo has chosen to retire to focus on life beyond the sport.

Enzo Zidane began his career at Real Madrid’s academy, a prestigious training ground for young talents, following in the footsteps of his famous father. Although his potential was highly anticipated, his first and only appearance for Real Madrid’s senior team came in 2016 during a Copa del Rey match. During this game, which was coached by his father, Zidane scored a goal, giving fans a glimpse of his promise on the big stage. However, despite the early hype, his football journey took many turns.

In 2017, Enzo left Real Madrid to sign with Deportivo Alaves in Spain’s top division, La Liga. His time there was brief, playing only four matches before moving to Swiss club Lausanne-Sport in 2018. This marked the beginning of several short stints across various European teams. After a brief return to Spain, Enzo had a spell in Portugal before transferring to Almeria, a club he left after just half a season.

The midfielder’s career saw him back in France in 2021 when he joined Rodez AF, where he stayed for a year before signing with CF Fuenlabrada in Spain’s third division. His time at Fuenlabrada marked the final chapter of his professional football career, with his last appearance coming in Spain’s third tier.

Over the course of his eight-year career, Enzo Zidane made a total of 115 professional appearances. His decision to retire at 29 signals a move towards a new direction in life, leaving behind a career that, while full of potential, never quite mirrored the legendary status of his father. Nevertheless, Enzo’s journey through European football has earned him respect as a player in his own right.
