Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappe has been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for an acute case of gastroenteritis. The France captain, 26, had missed training earlier in the week and did not feature in Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday in Miami.
Mbappe was admitted to hospital on Thursday after experiencing severe symptoms linked to gastroenteritis, an infection that affects the stomach and intestines, causing vomiting and diarrhoea. Just hours after the club announced his condition, Real Madrid confirmed he had been released and had returned to their training base in Palm Beach.
In an official statement, the club said: “Mbappe will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity.” His participation in Sunday’s match against Pachuca at 20:00 BST remains uncertain as he continues his recovery.
If he is not fully fit for the upcoming fixture, Mbappe may instead aim for a return during Real Madrid’s final group game against Salzburg, scheduled for 26 June.
The French striker joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and has had an impressive debut season. He scored 43 goals in 56 matches across all competitions, quickly establishing himself as a key player in the squad.
This tournament is Real Madrid’s first under new manager Xabi Alonso, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the La Liga season. Despite the managerial change, the club has maintained strong performances, having already secured the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup during Mbappe’s first year in Spain.
Mbappe’s health remains a top concern for the club as they enter a crucial phase of the Club World Cup. While his absence would be a blow, Real Madrid appears committed to managing his recovery carefully to ensure he returns at full strength.
The coming days will determine whether the star forward can contribute in the remaining matches of the tournament or will need additional time to recover.
