Black Stars coach Otto Addo expressed frustration following his team’s goalless draw against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday. Despite dominating the match, Ghana struggled to convert their chances, leaving them in a difficult position in their quest to qualify for the tournament.
In this first leg of the Group F doubleheader, Ghana, the four-time African champions, failed to score despite creating several opportunities. Sudan, coached by former Black Stars manager Kwesi Appiah, held their ground and earned a point with the 0-0 result. This draw puts Ghana in third place in the group with only two points, raising concerns about their ability to progress.
At a post-match press conference, Addo voiced his disappointment over the result. “We had a lot of chances,” he said. “A lot of chances, but this is football. Sometimes, it’s very, very hard for us. It’s even more painful now, considering the draw against Niger and the last-minute goal we conceded against Angola.”
Addo highlighted that, while the team played well, the result was ultimately what mattered most. “Today, again, we did well, and there’s not much I can say except for the result, and this is the most important thing in football,” he noted. “I think we deserved to win, but we didn’t. But, we will stay positive, and we will beat them away with the same performance, passion, and creativity up front.”
Sudan’s draw puts them in second place in Group F with four points, trailing group leaders Angola by two points. Ghana’s chances of advancing now depend heavily on their upcoming matches.
The Black Stars will have another chance to secure their first win in the group when they play Sudan again on Tuesday, this time at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya. Addo remains hopeful that his team can turn things around with a strong performance in the return leg.
The pressure is now on for Ghana as they look to keep their qualification hopes alive in the second leg of this important doubleheader
