Nollywood Star Halima Abubakar Apologizes to Apostle Suleman After Court Ruling

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has publicly apologized to Apostle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries International, for making false accusations against him. This comes after a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court ordered her in April 2024 to pay N10 million in damages to Apostle Suleman for defamation.

In a letter dated October 5, 2024, and posted on her Instagram page, Abubakar admitted to spreading baseless allegations against Apostle Suleman and expressed deep regret for the pain and distress she caused him, his wife, Dr. Lizzy Suleman, and the ministry. She acknowledged that her accusations were unfounded and asked for forgiveness, stating, "I admit that I made false allegations against you and also regret my actions and the damage I caused to you, your family, and the leaders of Omega Fire Ministry."

The conflict between the actress and the clergyman dates back to 2022, when Abubakar accused Apostle Suleman of causing her a mysterious illness after an alleged altercation between them. She also claimed that Suleman had promised to marry her but failed to keep that promise. These public allegations stirred controversy, ultimately leading to legal action.

By January 2023, after multiple warnings to Abubakar, Apostle Suleman filed a defamation lawsuit against her, demanding N1 billion in compensation for the harm to his reputation. The case culminated in the FCT High Court’s ruling in April 2024, which required Abubakar to pay N10 million in damages.

Following the court ruling, Abubakar issued her apology, acknowledging the seriousness of her actions. In her letter, she expressed sorrow for the harm caused, adding, "I ask you to find a place in your heart to forgive me as I was not thinking right then." She also expressed hope that her apology would help restore some of the damage done to Apostle Suleman’s reputation and ministry.

Though the legal case has been settled, Abubakar’s public apology represents a significant step in mending the rift between her and Apostle Suleman. The actress concluded her letter with a sincere expression of remorse, stating, "I’m truly sorry for all the hurts and distress I caused you, your family, and ministry."

This public admission marks the end of a highly publicized dispute, with Abubakar hoping to repair the damage caused by her accusations.
