Maureen Wanjiku, a resident of Kirinyaga County, was found dead after reportedly taking her own life by hanging from a mango tree on Friday night.
Her mother, Rose Wambui, recounted that she had left Wanjiku at home while attending a neighbor’s burial ceremony. Upon returning, she found her daughter missing, which led to a frantic search. Tragically, Wanjiku was later discovered hanging from a tree, confirming her death.
According to reports, this was not the first time Wanjiku had attempted to end her life. She had previously made three suicide attempts, though the reasons behind her distress remain unclear.
Cases of suicide have been on the rise in various parts of Kenya, with mental health challenges being a significant concern. Experts urge individuals facing emotional distress to seek help and support from family, friends, or mental health professionals.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding Wanjiku’s death. Meanwhile, her family and community members have been left in mourning, grappling with the pain of losing a loved one in such tragic circumstances.
