Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has extended the deadline for land rates payments to April 15, 2025, giving property owners more time to settle their dues without facing penalties.
The decision came after a meeting between Governor Sakaja and revenue department officials, where they reviewed the progress of the county’s revenue collection. Sakaja stated that the extension was designed to alleviate financial pressure on residents and improve revenue collection for essential services in the city.
“We understand the economic challenges Nairobians are facing and want to give them ample time to settle their land rates without penalties. This extension ensures fairness while encouraging compliance,” said Sakaja.
The extension aims to make it easier for property owners to complete their payments without the rush, as many have yet to finalize their dues. The county government has advised property owners to take advantage of this opportunity and avoid any last-minute congestion as the new deadline approaches.
Sakaja also noted that payments can be made conveniently through mobile phones or by visiting the Nairobi Pay service centres. He assured residents that no penalties would be applied during this extension period.
However, the Governor made it clear that after the new deadline, the county government will take action against defaulters. “We are committed to ensuring compliance, and defaulters will face penalties if they fail to meet the new deadline,” he said.
This extension comes at a time when many Nairobi residents are facing economic pressures, and the government hopes to increase revenue collection to support critical services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Governor Sakaja's move is aimed at balancing fairness and the need for timely payment of land rates, urging property owners to act now to avoid any future issues. The county remains focused on ensuring that revenue collection processes are efficient and accessible to all Nairobians.
