Kevin De Bruyne played a key role as Manchester City came from behind to defeat Crystal Palace 5-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in an exciting Premier League clash.
Crystal Palace shocked the home crowd by taking an early lead, scoring twice in the first 21 minutes. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring, and Chris Richards quickly followed up with a second goal, putting the visitors 2-0 ahead.
Manchester City responded strongly, with De Bruyne pulling one back in the 33rd minute from a perfectly taken free kick. Just three minutes later, the Belgian midfielder turned provider, setting up Egypt international Omar Marmoush for the equaliser to make it 2-2 before halftime.
City completely dominated the second half, with goals from Mateo Kovacic, James McAtee, and young talent Nico O’Reilly sealing a dramatic comeback victory. The win was crucial for Pep Guardiola’s side, who had dropped out of the top five earlier in the week following Newcastle United’s win over Leicester.
The result moves Manchester City up to fourth in the Premier League standings, two points ahead of Chelsea, who have played one game fewer. Chelsea have a chance to reclaim fourth place if they beat struggling Ipswich Town on Sunday. Newcastle, in sixth place, also remain close behind with two games in hand.
Meanwhile, Arsenal were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Brentford at Emirates Stadium. Despite their impressive recent form — including a big win over Manchester City — Mikel Arteta’s side couldn’t hold on for all three points, conceding a late goal to the visitors. Arsenal remain in second place in the table, while Liverpool sit at the top with 73 points.
In other upcoming fixtures, Manchester United face another test on Sunday as they welcome Ruben Amorim’s side to St. James’ Park for a clash with Newcastle United. The match will be another important one in the race for the top four as the Premier League season heads into its final stretch.
