Court Halts Isiolo Governor Impeachment Over Public Participation

A planned public participation exercise meant to discuss the proposed removal of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been called off after the court issued a conservatory order halting the process.

According to the court order, no further steps can be taken to process or debate the impeachment motion against Governor Guyo until the matter is fully heard and determined. The ruling specifically stops any person or entity from admitting, processing, or considering the Notice of Motion dated June 10, 2025. This motion had called for the governor’s removal and was expected to be debated on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

The court stated that:

“That pending the hearing and determination of this Application inter-partes, a conservatory order is hereby issued restraining, barring and or preventing the Respondents either by themselves or their agents from admitting, processing, debating or considering or in any manner whatsoever considering the Notice of Motion dated 10th June, 2025 for proposed removal from Office of the Governor of Isiolo County by impeachment founded on the Notice of Motion presented and intended to be debated on Tuesday, 17th June, 2025 or any other day the Respondent may set.”

This means that any future attempt to reschedule or push forward the same impeachment motion is also temporarily suspended. The court's decision came after concerns were raised about the legality and fairness of the process, especially regarding public participation.

The ruling has effectively paused all related proceedings until both sides in the matter present their arguments in full. This gives Governor Guyo a temporary reprieve from the impeachment motion, which had already started generating political interest within the county and beyond.

The conservatory order not only halts the public participation process but also prevents the County Assembly or any related parties from taking any action tied to the motion until the legal challenge is resolved.

This development marks a significant legal intervention in Isiolo’s local politics and sets the stage for a court-led review of the impeachment procedure. It remains to be seen how the court will rule once the case is heard in full.
