Taylor Swift has officially revealed her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, after weeks of fan speculation. The announcement came early Tuesday on her official website, moments after a countdown timer hit zero at 12:12 a.m. No release date has been shared yet, but Swift’s site notes that vinyl editions will ship before October 13.
Fans had long suspected that Swift’s next album was on the horizon. On Monday, Taylor Nation — the pop star’s official marketing arm — posted a TikTok slideshow featuring 12 images of Swift, all with her wearing orange, and captioned, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’” The color theme carried over to a special limited vinyl edition of the album, described as “portofino orange glitter” on the pre-order page.
Adding to the buzz, just 12 minutes before the album reveal, the “New Heights” podcast — co-hosted by Swift’s boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, alongside his brother Jason Kelce — teased a Wednesday episode with an orange-hued image and a shadowy figure many fans believed was Swift. Early Tuesday, Swift confirmed she would appear on the podcast. A teaser clip showed her pulling the new album from a briefcase, though the cover art remained blurred, matching the imagery on her website.
The Life of a Showgirl follows last year’s The Tortured Poets Department, which was announced during the 2024 Grammys and released during Swift’s record-breaking tour. That tour grossed over $2.2 billion across two years and five continents, making it the highest-grossing concert tour in history.
This will be Swift’s first album since regaining full ownership of her entire music catalog. In May, she announced she had bought back her recordings — originally released under Big Machine Records — from Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that had acquired them from Scooter Braun. Swift has spent recent years re-recording her first six albums to reclaim control, releasing “Taylor’s Version” editions packed with unreleased songs and hidden references for fans.
Her re-recordings, including Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), have all debuted at No. 1, solidifying her as the woman with the most chart-topping albums in history.
