The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has set August 25, 2025, as the date for its county delegates’ elections. The exercise is part of the party’s grassroots election cycle, which aims to strengthen internal democracy and prepare for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) confirmed that the polls will take place at designated centers across the country. However, four counties—Migori, Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Kisumu—will not take part in this round of voting.
“The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) will conduct countywide County Delegates elections, except for the counties of Migori, Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Kisumu,” said NECC chairperson Emily Awita.
According to the committee, all eligible delegates listed on the ODM Party website may contest for any available positions. Aspirants will be required to submit applications by paying nomination fees through the party’s Paybill number 985900, using the desired office as the account name.
The application fees have been set in four categories: Sh1,000 for non-executive posts, Sh2,500 for women, youth, disability, and special interest representatives, Sh5,000 for executive posts excluding chairperson, and Sh10,000 for county chairperson.
ODM began its grassroots elections in April 2025, following polling unit elections held in November 2024. So far, 77 officials have been elected at the sub-branch and branch levels, covering four key committees: mainstream, women’s league, youth league, and disability league.
In the upcoming elections, mainstream leadership slots up for contest include chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, organizing secretary, and deputy organizing secretary. Additional positions will be available for secretary for women, secretary for youth, secretary for disability, and a representative for special interest groups.
The NECC noted that the process is not only about filling leadership slots but also about reinforcing ODM’s grassroots presence. By conducting structured and transparent elections, the party hopes to maintain its reputation as a political movement that values participatory democracy.
ODM’s ongoing elections mark an important step in positioning the party for the 2027 polls. Through the county delegates’ elections, the party leadership aims to strengthen local structures while building momentum for national campaigns in the years ahead.
