Nigerian Artistes Earn N58bn From Spotify in 2024, a 132% Rise

The Nigerian music industry has reached a major financial milestone, with artistes earning over N58 billion in royalties from Spotify in 2024. This figure is more than double the N25 billion generated in 2023 and five times higher than the N11 billion recorded in 2022.

According to Spotify’s Loud and Clear report, the number of Nigerian artistes who earned at least N10 million in royalties has grown significantly, doubling since 2023 and tripling since 2022. The report also revealed that Nigerian artistes were discovered by first-time listeners more than one billion times on Spotify in 2024.

The streaming platform highlighted that over 1,900 Nigerian artistes were added to its editorial playlists, with a significant share of their royalties coming from international listeners. This reflects the increasing global demand for Nigerian music, with a 49% export growth recorded over the past three years.

Spotify also disclosed that worldwide listeners spent an average of 1.1 million hours streaming Nigerian music, while approximately 250 million playlists featuring Nigerian artistes were created. These statistics underscore the growing influence of Nigerian music beyond the country’s borders.

Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Spotify’s Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting Nigerian artistes. She emphasized that Spotify remains dedicated to helping artistes earn from their music while ensuring transparency for both artistes and stakeholders.

“The incredible growth of Nigerian music, both locally and globally, is a testament to the talent and creativity within Nigeria, and we are proud to support its continued rise,” she said.

In 2023, Nigerian artistes earned N25 billion in royalties from Spotify, meaning the 2024 figure represents an increase of N33 billion—a 132% growth. The earnings in 2022 stood at N11 billion, showing a sharp upward trend in revenue generation for Nigerian musicians.

The Loud and Clear report highlights how streaming platforms like Spotify have played a key role in expanding the reach of Nigerian music, allowing artistes to earn more while gaining international recognition. With the current trajectory, industry experts predict even greater financial success for Nigerian musicians in the coming years.
