Tina Fey’s Take on Money and Side Hustles
During a recent episode of the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, the Saturday Night Live alum shared her opinion on celebrities who seek additional income despite already being wealthy. When Poehler playfully suggested that Fey start a business based on her great hair or glasses, Fey explained why she avoids such ventures.
"You hate money?" Poehler asked.
"I do kind of hate money," Fey admitted. "As we know, [I'm] terrible with money… I don’t waste money, but I don’t get excited about money."
Fey emphasized that she only needs "enough money to live" and feel "safe." However, what really bothers her is when already wealthy people try to make even more money.
"I have a problem with rich people having a side hustle," she said. "If you already have like $200 million and you're like also..."
Before she could finish, Poehler interrupted, reminding Fey that younger generations, like Gen Z, don’t judge people for pursuing extra income.
"I judge it," Fey responded.
The Rise of Celebrity Side Hustles
Many celebrities have recently embraced alternative income streams outside their main professions. One notable example is singer Lily Allen, who revealed in October that she makes more money selling pictures of her feet on OnlyFans than from streaming royalties on Spotify.
Allen, who has nearly 8 million monthly listeners on the platform, launched her OnlyFans account in June, exclusively posting images of her feet. She later commented on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
"Imagine being an artist and having nearly 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify but earning more money from having 1,000 people subscribe to pictures of your feet. Don’t hate the player, hate the game."
Fey’s comments highlight an ongoing debate about whether extremely wealthy individuals should pursue additional income streams, especially in an era where many struggle to make ends meet. While some argue that money-making opportunities should be open to everyone, others, like Fey, believe that multimillionaires don’t need extra revenue streams.
