Actor Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with ALS, a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disease that affects muscle function and movement.
In a statement shared with People magazine on Thursday, Dane confirmed that he has been living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He expressed gratitude for the support of his family as they face this new chapter together. Dane is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, and the couple share two teenage daughters.
“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he said. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Despite the diagnosis, Dane said he is still able to work and is preparing to return to filming season three of HBO’s Euphoria, where he plays the character Cal Jacobs. Production is scheduled to resume on April 14, according to People. The
