Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, says her journey into spirituality has significantly changed the path of her career.
The Nigerian disc jockey revealed that her relationship with Jesus has taken her career in a different direction than she originally planned—but in what she describes as the best way possible.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Cuppy reflected on how her life has shifted since her spiritual awakening. “Jesus really disrupted my DJ career plans o, but in the BEST way,” she wrote. She added that being “booked and busy means nothing” if one is not walking in purpose, highlighting a deeper sense of meaning she has found in her life.
In August 2024, Cuppy was baptised at Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London, a moment she described as the “best decision” she has ever made. Since then, she has openly shared how faith has shaped her outlook on both personal and professional levels.
Despite this transformation, Cuppy made it clear that she is still a disc jockey, but one with a “deeper meaning.” Her spiritual growth, she noted, did not end her career—it gave it a new direction.
Cuppy began her professional journey in 2014 when she served as the resident DJ at the MTV Africa Music Awards. Over the years, she has expanded her portfolio, gaining recognition not just as a DJ but also as a singer and, more recently, an actress. Her hit songs include Gelato, Green Light, Vybe, Currency, and Jollof On The Jet.
Outside the entertainment industry, she has pursued academic and philanthropic goals. In October 2021, she began a master’s degree in African Studies at Oxford University, graduating in March 2023. A year later, in March 2024, she was named a King’s Trust International Ambassador by King Charles III, marking another milestone in her diverse and evolving journey.
Now 31, DJ Cuppy says she is no longer just chasing success but is more focused on living a life aligned with her purpose—one that, she believes, has been reshaped by faith.
