Former Kenyan presidential candidate Abduba Dida has been released from an American prison and is now living in Minnesota, USA. Before his arrest, Dida had already taken steps to establish a charitable organization known as the Dida Foundation International.
According to a source who spoke to the press, Dida had completed the registration process for the foundation just before his arrest. The organization is intended to carry out philanthropic activities, although specific details about its mission and goals were not disclosed. Now that he is a free man, Dida is reportedly focused on getting back on his feet and finding an office space to house the foundation’s operations.
“He is living in his house in Minnesota. He had started the Dida Foundation International and had completed its registration just before he was arrested. He is currently looking for an office to rent in Minnesota,” the source told the publication.
While information regarding the reason for his imprisonment or the length of his sentence remains unclear, it is evident that Dida is keen on rebuilding his life and pushing forward with the foundation's plans. His quiet return to civilian life in Minnesota marks a new chapter for the former teacher and politician, who first gained national attention during Kenya’s 2013 presidential race.
Dida ran for the presidency on a platform that emphasized education, integrity, and public service. Though he did not win, his campaign was noted for its simplicity and for raising issues that many ordinary Kenyans related to. His surprise entry into politics and subsequent performance at the presidential debate earned him widespread recognition.
With his release and re-entry into public life in the U.S., it remains to be seen whether Dida will maintain a low profile or re-engage more actively in community or charitable work through his foundation. For now, his focus seems to be on laying the groundwork for the Dida Foundation International and finding a base for its operations in Minnesota.
