Air Peace has announced that it will resume full flight operations on Friday, April 25, 2025, after the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT) suspended its strike. The airline had earlier grounded all flights across the country due to safety concerns linked to the strike.
The industrial action, which began on Wednesday, was triggered by unresolved welfare issues. NiMeT workers accused the agency of failing to negotiate or implement agreed financial allowances. They also cited non-payment of wage awards, peculiar allowances, and outstanding entitlements dating back to the 2019 minimum wage.
In addition to financial concerns, the workers claimed that management withheld essential documents and ignored repeated requests to include omitted staff in previous payments. There were also complaints about the neglect of vital training programmes, which workers said were being replaced with executive retreats.
The strike caused disruptions in the aviation sector, including the unavailability of QNH reports—crucial weather data needed for safe aircraft landings. As a result, Air Peace had no choice but to suspend all its flight operations.
The situation changed following a closed-door meeting between Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and NiMeT union leaders. The meeting led to the suspension of the strike, paving the way for airlines to resume operations.
Following the announcement, Ejike Ndiulo, head of corporate communications at Air Peace, issued a statement thanking customers for their patience and support during the disruption. “We sincerely thank you for your patience, understanding, and unwavering support throughout this challenging period,” the statement read. “Your resilience and trust in our brand mean the world to us.”
The airline also praised Minister Keyamo for his timely intervention and efforts in restoring calm within the aviation industry.
Air Peace further advised customers with reservation or flight concerns to contact their support team via email at [email protected] or call +234-201-343-8133 for assistance.
With operations set to resume, both Air Peace and the wider aviation sector hope for improved dialogue and solutions to avoid future disruptions.
