Three men have been arrested in connection with an attack on a Boys Brigade camp in Zhayidna village, Orozo, in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which led to the death of a young camper named Johnson John.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the FCT police command, the suspects—identified as Stanley Ukweze, Dauda Yohana, and Gemu Adamu—were arrested by police operatives led by Mbang Usang, the divisional police officer (DPO) of Karshi. All three suspects are residents of Wasa Village in Karshi.
During the arrest, officers recovered three mobile phones from the suspects. Two of the phones have already been confirmed to belong to the deceased, further tying the suspects to the crime.
FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the arrests and expressed the command’s appreciation to the public for their support. She commended residents, community leaders, and youth groups for cooperating with the police during the investigation. Adeh also urged the public to continue reporting suspicious individuals or activities using the police emergency lines provided: 0803 200 3913, 0802 894 0883, and 0705 733 7653.
The suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution once investigations are completed.
Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale reaffirmed the command’s commitment to a thorough investigation and promised that justice would be served. He stated that the police would not compromise in ensuring that the truth is uncovered and those responsible are held accountable.
The tragic attack on the Boys Brigade, a Christian youth organization, has sparked concern in the community. Many are calling for better protection of vulnerable groups and youth programs in rural and semi-urban parts of the FCT.
As the investigation continues, the police have urged the public to stay calm and law-abiding. They emphasized the importance of community engagement in helping maintain peace and security across the capital territory.
