Taxi Driver Arrested Over Alleged Murder of 23-Year-Old Lover

A 34-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 23-year-old girlfriend in Abuakwa, a suburb of Kumasi in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Police say the suspect, Robert Kwabena Boamah, was taken into custody following a manhunt that ended in Namong, Offinso Municipality.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the incident happened on Sunday, 21 April 2025. Boamah had reportedly picked up the victim, Dorothy Owusu Annor—also known as Maa Abena—from her family home under the pretext of taking her to bake bread. Hours later, her body was discovered near the Mighty Jesus Educational Complex in Dominase, within the Kwadaso Municipality.

Dorothy was found with multiple stab wounds and lying in a pool of blood. Residents who made the gruesome discovery quickly alerted the police. Officers who responded to the scene also found her mobile phone and a vehicle believed to belong to the suspect. The Opel Astra taxi, with registration number AS 8575–Y, was abandoned nearby with its ignition key still in place.

Following the discovery, police launched a manhunt that led to Boamah’s arrest three days later. During questioning, Boamah allegedly confessed to killing Dorothy and revealed that he had tried to take his own life afterward. He was taken to the Abuakwa Polyclinic for medical treatment and later discharged.

While Boamah is currently in police custody, the motive for the murder is still unknown. Investigators say they are working to determine what led to the violent act. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to arraign the suspect before a court of law.

The case has shocked the local community, especially given that the victim and the suspect were believed to have been in a long-term relationship. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue.

The Ashanti Regional Police have assured the public that justice will be pursued and that all necessary steps are being taken to uncover the full details behind the tragic incident.
