President Museveni Launches Reconstruction of Salaama–Munyonyo Road

President Yoweri Museveni has officially launched the reconstruction of the Salaama–Munyonyo Road in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

The road, which stretches through the busy suburbs of Makindye Division, is set for a major upgrade to improve transport and reduce congestion in the area. This development is part of ongoing efforts by the Ugandan government to modernize key infrastructure, particularly within urban centres experiencing rapid population growth and traffic pressure.

While speaking at the launch event, President Museveni emphasized the importance of road infrastructure in supporting national development. He noted that better roads would not only ease transportation for residents but also enhance access to social services and boost business activity in the region.

The Salaama–Munyonyo Road links several neighbourhoods and serves as a critical route for both commuter and commercial traffic. Its poor condition over the years has led to frequent complaints from road users about potholes, traffic jams, and delays.

Local leaders and residents have welcomed the reconstruction project, saying it is long overdue. Many expressed hope that the improved road will attract investment and improve living standards in the area. They also called on the government to ensure the works are completed on time and meet high-quality standards.

The road works will include widening of the carriageway, drainage improvements, and the construction of pedestrian walkways to enhance safety for all users. Contractors have already been mobilized and work is expected to begin immediately.

In his speech, Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure across the country. He added that such projects are crucial for supporting Uganda’s economic growth, especially in areas surrounding the capital.

The Ministry of Works and Transport is overseeing the reconstruction, and the project will be funded by the government in collaboration with development partners. Officials said regular updates will be provided to ensure transparency and community involvement.

With the launch of the Salaama–Munyonyo Road project, residents in Makindye and nearby areas can look forward to a smoother, safer, and more efficient transport experience once the works are completed.
