Tragic Loss: ‘Type of Way’ Rapper Rich Homie Quan Dies at 33, Cause Still Unknown

The hip-hop world is mourning the loss of Atlanta rapper Dequantes Lamar, popularly known as Rich Homie Quan, who passed away at the age of 33. Rich Homie Quan, who rose to fame with hits like "Type of Way" and "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)," died on Thursday in Georgia.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed the news, stating that Grady Memorial Hospital had notified them of Quan's death. However, the cause and manner of death remain unclear, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine further details.

"On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar," the official statement read. The autopsy findings, expected soon, will hopefully provide more insight into this tragic loss.

Rich Homie Quan was born on October 4, 1989, in Atlanta, and became a key figure in the trap music scene in the 2010s. His breakout moment came in 2013 with his hit single "Type of Way," which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s success led to high-profile remixes featuring the likes of Jeezy and Meek Mill. Quan followed up with more hit collaborations, including "Lifestyle" as part of the Rich Gang collective alongside Young Thug and Birdman.

Despite his rapid rise in the music world, Quan experienced setbacks in his career. In a 2022 interview with the Associated Press, he discussed taking a hiatus due to legal issues with his former label, T.I.G. (Think It’s a Game Records). However, he was determined to make a strong return to the industry.

Rich Homie Quan was also involved in a much-publicized feud with Young Thug, his former collaborator. Young Thug and rapper Gunna were both indicted on charges related to Georgia's RICO Act. However, Quan denied any ongoing conflict between them and expressed openness to reconnecting with Young Thug if the opportunity arose.

The rapper's untimely death has left fans and the music community in shock, as many reflect on the emotional and passionate style that defined his music. Further details are awaited as the autopsy is conducted, but the loss of such a talented artist is already being deeply felt.
