Taylor Swift Urges Fans to Vote in 2024 Election During VMAs Acceptance Speech, Endorses Kamala Harris

During her acceptance speech for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift used the moment to encourage her millions of fans to register to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. After thanking her fans for their support, Swift added a call to action: “If you’re over 18, please register to vote for something else that is important — the Presidential election.”

Swift, who has become an influential voice among young voters, officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president on Tuesday, shortly after Harris participated in a debate with Donald Trump. The pop star broke her silence on her choice in a detailed Instagram post, where she explained her decision and urged others to research the candidates and their positions on key issues.

In her Instagram statement, Swift expressed her admiration for Harris, saying, “I watched the debate tonight. Kamala Harris fights for the rights and causes I believe in.” She encouraged her followers to do their own research on the election and make informed decisions. “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” Swift wrote.

The post went on to confirm that Swift will cast her vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader,” she said, adding her appreciation for Walz’s long-standing commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and women’s reproductive rights.

In her message, Swift emphasized that her endorsement came after thorough research and encouraged her followers to do the same, reminding them that the choice of candidate is ultimately a personal decision.

With a massive social media following and significant influence among young voters, Swift’s political endorsement has the potential to energize many to register and vote in the 2024 presidential election.
