Vinicius Jr Faces Possible Four-Game Ban After Red Card

Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid could face a suspension of up to four games after receiving a red card in the match against Valencia on Friday, reports Tiempo de Juego via Madrid Xtra. The reigning champions struggled throughout the match after conceding a goal in the 27th minute, with Hugo Duro putting Valencia ahead.

Despite persistent efforts to equalize, disaster struck for Los Blancos in the 79th minute. While appealing for a penalty, Vinicius Jr clashed with Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. The goalkeeper appeared to make contact with Vinicius in the back, causing the Brazilian to react angrily, hitting Dimitrievski in the neck. The referee, Soto Grado, reviewed the incident on the pitch-side monitor and showed Vinicius a straight red card for his actions.

If the incident is classified as aggression under Article 103 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, the 24-year-old could face a four-game suspension. However, if the charge is deemed less severe, the suspension could range from two to three games.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid continued to fight despite being a man down. Luka Modric equalized in the 85th minute with a first-time pass from Jude Bellingham. In the dying seconds of the match, Bellingham intercepted a back pass and scored, securing a 2-1 victory for Madrid.

This red card was Vinicius Jr.'s first-ever for Real Madrid’s senior team in his seven years at the club. He had previously been sent off while playing for Real Madrid Castilla for a second yellow card due to simulation. The Brazilian also had a disciplined record at Flamengo, where he received nine yellow cards in 69 games but never a red. Additionally, Vinicius has never been sent off while playing for Brazil, accumulating six yellow cards over his career.

Despite the controversy, Vinicius has been exceptional for Real Madrid, contributing 13 goals and nine assists from 21 games across competitions this season, cementing his importance to the club.
